NCCo to seek 'No Jake Brakes' sign on Naamans

From www.delawareonline.com:

New Castle County Council on Tuesday agreed to request that the state Department of Transportation place a sign along Naamans Road reminding truckers that compression-release brakes cannot be used unless the vehicle is equipped with a muffler to dampen the sound. The resolution was offered by Republican Councilman Robert Weiner after residents in his district complained of noise made by commercial vehicles with supplemental compression-release brakes, also called Jake Brake systems. Although state law prohibits use of the brakes without the muffler, DelDOT won't post a sign unless a local governmental body requests it. That fact drew criticism from several council members, including Council President Paul Clark, who said "it is the stupidest thing I've ever seen, and I hope the state comes to its senses to change it." Council voted 10-2 in favor of the request. Council members William Tansey and Karen Venezky voted no. Councilman George Smiley voted present, which is a vote cast without weight.

"I am grateful for Bob's decade-long support for the Washington-Rochambeau Revolutionary Route National Historic Trail, which follows Philadelphia Pike and Market Street into Wilmington. His presence and influence at the birth of our Delaware organization to develop this trail and to have it designated as a National Historic Trail was a key factor in keeping our hopes for the trail alive and growing."
