Council tables effort to televise meetings

A proposal to televise New Castle County Council meetings was tabled Tuesday so the sponsor can fine-tune his idea.

Councilman Bob Weiner said he wants to enter into a contract with Wilmington. The city government has it’s own TV station, studio, producers and camera operators. City Council and County Council meet in the same chambers in the Louis L. Redding City-County Building.

Some council members worried that televising the meetings would make the sessions longer. Others wanted a cost estimate, which wasn’t in Weiner’s proposal.

Weiner said Wilmington officials told him Tuesday that it would cost around $50,000 a year to hire the city employees to run the cameras.
