Notice from Councilman Bob Weiner: Bank of America retail branch plans to locate at Tally Ho Shopping Center

Delaware’s first Bank of America retail branch is coming to Brandywine Hundred. Council of Civic Organizations of Brandywine Hundred Land Use Chairman Bob Valihura and I recently met with the owners and developers for the Tally Ho Shopping Center to receive a briefing on the redevelopment project planned for the southeast corner of Naamans Road and Concord Pike. We made suggestions which were incorporated into the site plan, such as a redesigned and safer entrance from Naamans Road and using a brick façade. CCOBH and I will be carefully monitoring the project as it goes through the scrutiny of subdivision review. The project must comply with the technical requirements of the New Castle County Subdivision Code but no rezoning is needed. The bank has received Exploratory approval and is now seeking a Record Plan approval in the next few months. Bank of America has chosen the Tally Ho Shopping Center location to build its "flagship" retail branch in Delaware.

The retail bank will be prominently located at the intersection of Naamans Road and Concord Pike, within the existing Tally Ho Shopping Center. The main shopping center is proposed to remain, while the freestanding 17,700 square foot building nearest the intersection will be removed and replaced with a 4,600 square foot branch bank with three drive-through lanes. Bank of America designs energy-efficient buildings and has selected this site to construct a LEED certified building. Through the redevelopment of this site, landscaping will be increased and impervious coverage will be reduced. Also, the Naamans Road entrance to the shopping center is proposed to be modified to improve traffic flow and patron safety.

Elevations of the proposed bank and proposed site layout are available in PDF format below.

Final plan approvals are expected later this summer and construction is expected to commence this fall.
